Linux Mint

Post by [SAT]LollyPop on Wed Jan 19, 2011 4:45 am

I would like to introduce Linux Mint. Why?

If viruses drive u mad, if u are online just for check mail or IM, u use office pack for non complicated things, if u hinge of stable system u may try Gnu/Linux. The best distro to get started imo is Linux Mint. Yes URT is native game for linux Smile

more info here >> www.linuxmint.com

If u got some questiong plz write Smile

Ye, Mint is based on Ubuntu and Ubuntu is based on debian, but i strongly recomend Mint for beginer for simply reason: after instalation u got all wanted stuff on board, including java, flash, codecs etc. U dont have to install or config anything. U just use it few seconds after installation process Smile

I like Centos and RHEL. YUM and rpms, a much nicer way to deal with package management. Very Happy

It's also a mith, linux is in fact much more logical and futher much more easy to learn. But i also realize that Bill G. is a monopolist and ppl use Windows from childhood. That's the way why linux is considered to be hard Smile

u dont have to "learn" commands, u can also click-on depends on GUI u have, but when u're with linux long time, console is much comfortable than clickin Smile

PS Quake was written in Vi, Gnu/Linux editor Smile

No offending to Linux Users pls.....

I've tried lots of them like Mandriva \ Fedora \ Gentoo \ Arch and finally settled on Debian, which is still my OS of choice for abt 4-5 years now. Installed both on Home Box with 42" screen and travel netbook.
At work I use Windows, but only because corporate shitty policies....and some proprietary software written for bloody IE.... dead1

Mint is indeed for complete noobs switching from windows or favors of point and click finger exercises......but great way to start.

Wife was amazed when suddenly WinXP failed to read vacation pics & video from SD card......and only because of dual booted debian we could continue to store data on hard drive during travel...

So people thinks geek - this can sometime save ur ass
