It allows people to save their locations and reload them, also allows people to go to each other (if the other person allows it). It has a lot more features beyond that, but those are the ones that pertain mainly to jumping.

You assume all people will upgrade.

Why would jumpers upgrade, 4.2 offers nothing we need and tons of bullshit we dont need. I personally will continue running 4.1 jump servers and i know of a handful of other admins who dont intend to upgrade as well.

Im also intending to join the OpenTerror project and try and create an opensource UrbanTerror engine mainly aimed at the jump community, but if it did frag as well, no one would complain but for me that is a secondary goal. At least that way people can request features to be added that are useful with some hope of them actually being implemented.

Of course but remember to pray or bribe them to still be able to get the server list from the master server It could be that the dev team decide to stop the service. Of course someone could run an unofficial server list for 4.1 version, or people could just connect to v4.1 IP's they find on some websites. To be honest I doubt lots of players will jump on 4.1 if everyone is playing on 4.2.
About OpenTerror, the last news on their site was posted on July 12th, is the project still active ?

Anyway, i think they'll stop 4.1 master servers some time after 4.2 release.

They arent the only people running master servers.

Their are a total of 4 master servers besides the one FS run. SInce iourt is essentially quake 3 it still auths to quake 3 master servers, so even on the odd time when FS's master went down you could still find servers.

I see jumping moving away from urbanterror in the future. We wants specific new features, and we want funcs like save and load. Likelihood of getting those with FS is somewhere around 0, so why not stay with ioq3. Neither the passport or anticheat has any bearing on jumping.

Jump mode will be interesting based on the fact the majority of the dev team really hates jumpers and jumping, and think we are all a waste of space. We will see what it looks like if and when its released.

We'll see anyways, but i could happily run a 4.1 master server. Worst case i will remain a renegade on the side, but i dont see me being the only one. 4.1 will continue.
